There’s something special about lighthouses. The magic, the mystery, the lore makes them irresistible. Here are a few resources to find out more about lighthouses in the Chesapeake Bay area and beyond...
Chesapeake Chapter, U.S. Lighthouse Society
Helpful website with information about all the lighthouses in the Chesapeake Bay area. They also sponsor the Maryland Lighthouse Challenge, a weekend that celebrates the lighthouses of Maryland.
Hoopers Island Lighthouse
The Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society, which now owns the Hooper Island Lighthouse in Dorchester County, Maryland, is calling for volunteers to help in their restoration efforts. This is an opportunity to be one of the first people to set foot in this caisson-style lighthouse from 1902 since it was turned over to the U.S. Lighthouse Society in 2007. The work days are usually the last Saturdays of the month. Sign up to help restore this Dorchester County lighthouse on the Hooper Island Lighthouse website.
